Summer is going fast but we’ve still got time for a nice vacation. But a fulfilling vacation doesn’t always mean traveling abroad. Sometimes, a staycation is just what the doctor ordered!
Here at Montereau, we try to make every day feel like vacation. Do a few laps in the pool, tend to your garden, or let us pamper you at the spa in the afternoon. While we offer an abundance of off-campus excursions into Tulsa, our hope is that everywhere you’d want to go pales in comparison to what you can find right on campus.
In addition to living a full life by enjoying maintenance-free living on campus, here are a few staycation ideas for older adults at Montereau or the greater Tulsa area:
- Tour the Tulsa Botanic Garden: Spend a relaxing day visiting the Tulsa Botanical Garden with friends, relatives or other residents on campus. Explore the Children’s Discovery Garden, A.R. and Marylouise Tandy Floral Terraces and the Visitor Center which now sells local beer, hard cider, sparkling wine and chilled espresso. If you’re planning a trip, note that all transactions at the Garden are now cashless. Visit the website to view the calendar of events and purchase discounted tickets in advance.
- Visit the Tulsa Zoo: You’re never too old for a visit to the zoo. At the Tulsa Zoo, you can explore 84 acres of adventure from the Rhino Reserve and Giraffe Experience to the Rainforest and so much more. Download the zoo map to plan your visit and check out their calendar for all upcoming events.
- Check out a museum: Tulsa is home to many world-class and fascinating museums, from the Philbrook and Gilcrease art museums to the Tulsa Historical Society and the Woody Guthrie Center. If you haven’t explored all the intellectual activities in our area, take a Saturday afternoon (or a Monday morning, since you’re retired!) and discover our community.
- Do more of what you love: Commit to doing the things you love most. Those activities you promised to try, the places you’ve always wanted to visit as well as the activities you used to enjoy and wanted to start back doing. Start a good book, enjoy a movie night with friends or catch up with neighbors over a cocktail.
- Plan a date night: This tends to be one of those activities that easily falloff the schedule but once you do it you wonder why you let it slide. With so many activities happening during the summer, you’re sure to have lots of ideas and opportunities for planning a special date night with your significant other. Use the time to have fun together and reconnect.
Join us at Montereau where there’s always something to do and a friendly community that will help you to make the most of it. If you’re interested, feel free to schedule a tour today.
