Retirement is what you make it, and you can make it to be some of the best years of your life. At Montereau, we’re here to help you along the way, offering everything you need for a fun-filled, maintenance- and worry-free retirement. Here are a few ideas from some fellow retirees on how to make the most of these golden years:

  • Be a mentor: Giving back is one of the most powerful ways to live a purposeful life. By the time you are retired, one of your greatest gifts is wisdom. By mentoring the next generation, not only are you offering advice or a listening year, you likely will find you gain friendship and a sense of true satisfaction.
  • Take a class: Have you ever thought, “One class I’d love to take if only I had more time is …” Now’s your chance! Thanks to Montereau’s lifelong learning opportunities, you can sign up for a wealth of classes, clubs and lectures, from dancing to cooking to gardening. As long as you exercise your freedom to try, you never stop growing and learning.
  • Learn a new language: It’s never too late to learn a new language. In fact, it just might be one of the best things to do when you’re retired. Not only do you have the time to practice every day, but learning a new language keeps your mind sharp and active.
  • Start writing a book: As an older adult, you have a wealth of information to share with the world, from professional knowledge to personal experiences to hobbies and interests. If you love cooking and baking, consider compiling your favorite recipes into one book. If writing a book can sound overwhelming, start small! Grab yourself a prompt journal to spark some writing ideas.
  • Stay as busy as you like: A common refrain among the retired is that they stay so busy, they never know how they ever had time for work! Here at Montereau, you can stay as busy or as free as you like, with everything from warm summer evening happy hours to movie nights to Bible studies.
