4 Ways to Spice up Your Retirement

During retirement is probably one of the best times to try all those activities that you never had time to enjoy. It’s YOUR time. Among other benefits, research has shown that having fun can benefit your health, enhance your relationships and improve your mood.

That’s why a full calendar of activities is such an important part of caring for your overall health and wellbeing. This will contribute to living a full and empowered life. At Montereau, we ensure that residents have a number of activities to connect, build community and stay entertained.

February is the shortest month, so make sure each day counts. Here are 4 ways to add more fun to your life and make the most of retirement.

  1. Change your morning routine: Having a morning routine is great because it helps to keep you on track and set the tone for the rest of your day. Nonetheless, that means you can also grow weary of repeating the same tasks in the same order every day. Break up the monotony of your morning regimen and try a new exercise     routine, listen to an entertaining podcast, do some arts and crafts or set aside time for learning a new skill.
  1. Dance like no one’s watching: The freedom, expression and enjoyment that come from dancing are the epitome of fun. Take it up a notch by dancing like no one’s watching. The truth is, most times they aren’t. A lot of times we may want to dance but we wait around because we’re not sure that we’d have company or we’re afraid of what others may think. Don’t be afraid to get out those proverbial dancing shoes and get moving!
  1. Sing in the shower: When was the last time you sang in the shower? It’s one of the simplest but most fun activities. Put on your favorite playlist for a full-on karaoke session or enjoy a relaxing bubble bath while you sing along to more calming tunes. Singing releases feel-good hormones that improve your mood and reduce your stress levels. The best thing about this activity is there’s really no right or wrong way to do it.
  1. Try something new: The novelty of trying something for the first time brings a great deal of anticipation and excitement. Admittedly, it’s also one of the best ways to know what you truly enjoy. There’s always something new on campus for you to explore. Now that you have more time on your hands, it’s the perfect     opportunity to dive in and have some fun. Check out our ongoing wellness opportunities and make a note of everything you’d like to try. There’s Zumba, games night, aqua fitness, movies and more.
